With the country bitterly divided over many different issues, reaching out to the general public and getting their perspective is more important than ever.
Vox pops do not have to fill you with fear of dread; with the right preparation and enough practice, you will be able to reach out and get as iconic moments as this.
To help get you started on reaching out to the public, Scottish audio producer and blogger Chris Quilietti, better known as The Ginger Guy, gives his 11 best ways to record better vox pops.
"I was terrified to approach my fellow students [working for my high school radio station] while I was suffering from crippling acne," he writes.
"It was traumatic (for a 15 year old), but I learnt two important lessons that day: always take free food offered to the press at events and the best way to get over the fear of approaching someone for a vox, is to get on with it."
