In an article for Nieman Lab, Joshua Benton explains how publishers can take advantage of a recent change that allows them to direct would-be subscribers back to their website, rather than purchasing via Apple under Apple's own rules.
While that means adding a few more steps to the subscription process for the user, the advantage is not only financial, but also means that the publisher manages their relationship with subscribers directly.
