Crowdfunding can be a great way of financing journalism, and contributors may even be up for lending a hand when it comes to researching your feature, podcast, or documentary as well.

But as many journalism ideas never reach their crowdfunding goal, what can you do to ensure your campaign is successful?

Radiotopia recently raised more than $600,000 (£382,312) on Kickstarter to create more public radio shows.
