Hiring for your latest vacancy can be another time-sink on your growing to-do list, so it can be tempting to slap together a job listing and simply wait for the CVs to come flooding in.

But not putting the effort into your job vacancies can be harmful to the hiring process, notes Tiff Fehr, assistant editor and lead developer, interactive news, New York Times, writing on Source.

Not only can it narrow the scope of potential applicants coming in, it can also lead to safe choices in who to hire. Fehr offers some classic advice and a few quirkier suggestions on how to overcome this, such as putting more effort into planned and efficient meetings.

"These meetings will often focus on buy-in and making hard decisions. They need to be planned so the pace of the process doesn’t wander off track," she writes.
