It is a struggle that all freelancers have faced - how do you make yourself and your content stand out when contacting editors?
Jessica Reed, features editor at the Guardian US who often commissions stories by freelancers, shares her best tips for writing your pitch in this article with The Professional Freelancer.
Reed explained that one of her grievances when it comes to receiving pitches is getting story ideas requiring a large budget, without the freelancer putting the effort in crafting the proposal.
"Some people want to write 5,000 words but don’t show me they’ve done the work, and importantly, why it should stand at that length," she explained. "If you want to write that long and you’re cold pitching, a lot of work has to be put in the pitch."
