Gender stereotyping in the media can affect how women and gender minorities are perceived by the public. One of the reasons why they are often misrepresented in our reporting is the lack of inclusivity in the newsroom.
In her article for the International Journalists’ Network, Héloïse Hakimi Le Grand sets out how to counteract gender stereotyping in news reporting.
Educating the newsroom about the basics is crucial, as many journalists are not properly aware of what gender stereotyping is.
"Without training, such topics are often misunderstood, and lack of education on LGBTQI+ issues can lead to further gender stereotyping," she writes.
