Social media are increasingly used as a source of news. A 2020 research by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ) found that around 30 per cent of internet news users in the UK access news online through their social feeds.
With such a large audience, it is important to have a solid strategy. To help you get started, freelance writer Brent Barnhart has compiled nine tips on how to effectively reach the public in this article for Sprout Social.
"Personal updates provide an opportunity to get followers invested in you beyond your duties as a journalist. Note that few journalists with sizeable followings are rigid and 'matter of fact.' Want to share a personal milestone or something not news-related? Go for it," he writes.
