Language, Please is a set of resources and style guides to help journalists make informed decisions and cover sensitive issues in a responsible way
Language Please, created by Vox Media, is aimed at journalists and other writing professionals to ensure their use of language is inclusive, equitable and responsible.
There are style guides linked to specific topics such as class, neurodiversity, gender and sexuality, and helpful tips on navigating these discussions with editors and others in your newsroom. It is a living resource, which means these will be updated and expanded over time.
If you are in the early stages of thinking about these issues, their slide deck on ten tips for inclusive language is a good starting point, with advice such as "identify people the way they identify themselves" and questions to ask yourself to help recognise your own unconscious biases. This is one to add to your bookmarks folder and refer to when reporting on under-represented groups.
