Reporters from Pink News, Vice and Sportsbeat share their best advice for working on digital platforms
The journalist of today needs to be a whiz on social media and have a penchant for multimedia content.
News Associates recently held a panel with some of the best up-and-coming social media journalists from the likes of Pink News and Vice. Here are the main takeaways on what it takes to work in this field.
As well as tips on work experience and job applications, the panel shared the top skills needed to be a social media journalist today. Will Thompson, social media manager and digital sports journalist for Sportsbeat said that tone is everything on social media. That means you have to quickly adapt to different tones depending on who you are working for.
"Social channels are the shop windows for the brand, it's what everyone sees, it's public. You have to be mindful of the power of social media," he said.
