Establishing contacts in advance and having a plan for who to interview will prevent chaotic Election Day coverage
With a year to go until the next presidential election in the United States, newsrooms across the country are preparing to cover the campaigns of the political parties, as well as the election results themselves.
As Election Day can be hectic, knowing how best to spend your time is essential.
Clark Merrefield and Denise-Marie Ordway spoke to a range of political reporters and scholars for advice in bolstering coverage on Election Day, in this article for Journalist's Resource.
Western Kentucky University Public Radio reporter and local election coverage veteran Lisa Autry, explained that establishing contacts early on will help establish groundwork for reporting on the day itself.
"Don't wait until the campaign period to plan election coverage. Much research and reporting can be done in advance," she said.
