Here is how to decide whether moving up is the right move for you
When we think about the career ladder, it is tempting perhaps to think of each new rung as a higher salary and more prestige, maybe a step closer to your dream job.
But what if you are not ready? Writing for the New York Times, author Anna Goldfarb notes that it can backfire. Instead, she advises to weigh up your options before snapping your boss’s hand off.
In her article, Goldfarb offers four insights to help you make your mind up, starting with assessing your goals.
"If you don’t have specific objectives in mind — identifiable skills you want to sharpen, an idea of the direction you want your career to go — you’re not going to know if this promotion is going to get you to closer to those goals," she writes.
