This advice for female journalists - from female journalists - aims to tackle common struggles together
Although diversity in newsrooms has advanced a long way over the past few years, women still face significant challenges in the workplace, ranging from the battle for equal pay to the continued controversy over the #MeToo movement.
As part of a two-part series for Ijnet, Destiny Alvarez spoke to a range of journalists and academics to get their recommendations to empower women to overcome the issues they face in journalism.
"Once you're in a position of power, do what you can to bring other women up with you," Alvarez wrote.
"While many newsrooms are making an effort to ensure greater gender parity in the newsroom, it does not always translate into senior - especially for women of colour. Female editors can take the lead in creating a more inclusive environment which can inspire - and dare we say it, shame - others into doing things better."
