Investigative journalists have always needed to be good at doing a bit of digging to get a good story, and this is especially true in the online space.
But digging up nuggets of information by scouring social media is not a straightforward task, and getting your hands on those deleted tweets for your next report could prove tricky.
Fortunately, Paul Myers, lead consultant of the BBC’s Investigative Support initiative, offers a tipsheet on how to dig up information on people straight from his last webinar on GIJN.
"If information has only recently been deleted and still comes up in a Google search, try clicking on the little black triangle next to its entry in the search results. This might give you access to a stored copy in the search engine’s cache," he writes.
