Newsrooms can use these tried-and-tested indicators to see how digital changes have been implemented and adopted
Digital age has brought about reporting revelations from smartphones to smart speakers.
Rapid changes, however, can seem chaotic, notes Dietmar Schantin, founder and CEO, Institute for Media Strategies, writing on Reuters. When trying to transform your newsroom, changes can be hard to implement and adopt. But there are some tried-and-tested techniques which can help the transition process.
One of Schantin’s seven lessons from a lifetime of digital transformation includes cross-department co-operation. Because changes will be felt across different parts of the company, checking in to see if departments are still in close contact is a strong indication of how changes have been eased in.
"If any of the departments are isolated, the project has less chance of success. This does not mean the wall separating editorial and advertising should come down. But all the departments have to talk and a transformation project helps to start the discussion," he writes.
