Digital media organisations need to be able to react and adapt fast to serve their communities
Hierarchical structures and internal bureaucracy do not provide the nimble work culture needed in digital media organisations today.
Alexandre Pedroso Cordeiro, Product and Digital Strategy Manager at Editora Globo in Brazil, shares six tips for building a culture of experimentation in your newsroom in an INMA blog.
"What often happens is that leaders provide teams with preconceived assumptions and biased opinions so the team can validate them, but they are starting from a base already steeped in bias," he says.
Sound familiar? Cordeiro suggests scheduling regular meetings to discuss results and plans for experimentation, celebrating small milestones, and being ready to fail - and learn from it. A final piece of advice is that even the process of developing this culture is an experiment itself; you won't get everything perfect from the start, so just take the first step and tweak as you go.
