BBC News this week issued an update to its staff social media guidelines to take into account the outlet's increasing use of eyewitness media and user-generated content.
The guidelines, published online here, also cover newer social networks such as Vine, and chat apps such as WhatsApp, which the BBC has been using to source and distribute content since April last year.
Writing about the update on the BBC News Blog, social media editor Chris Hamilton said the guidance was "a reflection of the fact social media is now just part of what we do".
