Innovation in journalism usually comes at a price – but who can foot the bill?

One option is to apply for a journalism grant, an alternative that might not be on the radar of many journalists and one that also comes with a big challenge: crafting a proposal.

Well aware of the differences between writing a news story, a feature and a grant proposal, Djordje Padejski of Stanford University outlined 15 tips for putting together grant applications in this article for IJNet.

He highlights, among other key tips, the importance of being realistic about resources and budgets, and points to the similarities between writing a proposal and preparing for a Kickstarter campaign.
