On a day reminding us of the importance of democracy and independent journalism, take this chance to thank readers for their crucial support and to commit once again
Here is a date for your calendar: 3 May is World Press Freedom Day. UNESCO defines this as: "a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom and is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics."
The ongoing war in Ukraine makes this day especially poignant, in which UNESCO adds that it is a day of support for media which are targets of press freedom violations, remembering journalists who lost their lives in the pursuit of a story.
It is a day in which news outlets may turn to their readers to acknowledge and appreciate their support, but also to ask once again for them to renew their vital commitments to you.
The News Revenue Hub provides an email template that you can use to tactfully ask your readers for their support, on a day reminding us of the importance of independent journalism.
