Local newsrooms are more trusted than most national outlets - here is how to preserve that trust and make it pay
At a time when public trust in media is low, regional and local publications are more trusted by audiences than most national news organisations.
However, local newsrooms have also faced difficulty in sustaining themselves as advertising revenue continues to decline.
To help maintain that trust and make it pay, host of the Demystifying Media podcast and the Carolyn S. Chambers professor of journalism at the University of Oregon, Damian Radcliffe, created 10 tips to strengthen local newsrooms in this article for IJNet.
Radcliffe explained that one way to create trust is to give audiences an insight into the work that goes into the news.
"In the past, we took trust in our profession for granted. Now we have to earn it. The most obvious way to do this is to explain what we do."
