The importance of fact checking is not to be underestimated, regardless of the field of journalism a reporter works in and the immediacy of a deadline.

Check out this advice from Sam Berkhead at IJNet, who compiled a list of 11 verification and fact-checking tools and resources to use throughout 2016.

Her suggestions include the Verification Handbook, a comprehensive guide to verifying user-generated content during emergencies, disasters and other breaking events, and TinEye, a reverse image search tool to help establish when an image was taken and where else it has appeared on the web.
