With a wider range of media jobs available, and innovative methods of storytelling being developed regularly, there has never been a more exciting time to work within the fast-paced world of digital journalism.
But as the industry is always changing, reporters are expected to constantly learn more and more skills to keep up with how audiences are consuming news.
Along with shorthand and video knowledge, we found coding was one of the most useful skills current journalists believe reporters should teach themselves.
For this week's podcast, we spoke to Anisah Osman Britton, who is one of the founders of 23 Code Street, a London-based coding school for women.
She explained the importance of encouraging journalists, particularly female reporters who may feel intimidated by such a male-dominated industry, to build their coding skill set so they can better engage with their audiences.
Learning HTML, CSS and JavaScript may not be glamorous, but programming knowledge can certainly help you to tell better and more interesting stories.
