Helen Situ, virtual reality evangelist, NextVR, discusses how live VR can transform the journalism landscape
News publishers have been experimenting with the planning, production and distribution of various forms of virtual reality (VR) and 360-degree video content over the past year, but now the format is going live, allowing audiences to watch content through a headset as it is happening, while being completely immersed in it.
This week's guest is Helen Situ, virtual reality evangelist at NextVR, who deals with business and product development. She discusses the benefits of streaming virtual content live, the equipment available for doing it, and the opportunities that it could open up for news publishers.
She explains that although virtual reality can enrich journalism in many ways, there are ethical considerations that publishers must take into consideration when choosing to broadcast an event or story live.
