The 51 Percent is a weekly news show run by French broadcaster, France 24, which has been offering a platform to influential women and covering women’s rights stories for the last 10 years.
In this week's podcast, we speak to France 24 TV news presenter, and the host and creator of The 51 Percent show, Annette Young, about keeping the flame alive to run the show and why it is needed in today’s world.
It would be easy to lose hope and positivity with setbacks in women's rights around the world, closures of leading feminist news publications and increasing abuse towards women journalists.
But if anything, the clear need for this coverage is spurring on Young and her team even more. And she calls on fellow news broadcasters, in particular, to step up their efforts to cover these topics, just as they have done.
