Local news stations dominated the winners' list in this year's duPont awards for excellence in broadcast journalism, announced yesterday.

The US-based awards, which are organised by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, gave prizes to six local television stations, including Houston's KHOU-TV and Denver's KMGH-TV.

The awards' inaugural prize for a web-based production went to multimedia production studio MediaStorm for its report Intended Consequences on the Rwandan genocide.

National stations were also winners: CBS picked up two awards including one for its interview series with Sarah Palin, and NPR and HBO were also recognised.
