The 14th annual Webby Awards, which recognise online innovation, have opened for entries.

The competition is open to all organisations and individuals involved in designing, building, managing, maintaining, marketing or promoting websites; interactive advertising and media; online film and video; and mobile web content for business, consumer or general audiences.

Last year's awards saw 58 British entrants nominated with prizes for the Guardian's podcast and Comment is Free site, the Financial Times' Alphaville blog and the BBC News site.

New categories for this year's awards include best radio/podcast, best use of online media and best use of social media.

There is no limit on the number of submissions or number of categories that one individual or company can enter. Applications should be made online at http://entries.webbyawards.com/. The deadline for participants is October 30 2009.

The nominations will be announced in April 2010 and winners honoured at a ceremony in New York City on June 14 next year.

The award winners will be invited to broadcast five-word acceptance speeches alongside former Webby winners via the Webby Awards' YouTube Channel.
