Leading war reporters and defence specialists will debate the media's role in the Afghanistan war next week at an event hosted by the Frontline Club.

'Who is winning the media war in Afghanistan?' will feature Frontline Club founder and experienced correspondent Vaughan Smith and focus on the impact that media coverage of the conflict has had on those involved and on the perceptions of Afghanistan.

Smith will be joined by BBC defence correspondent Caroline Wyatt and Brigadier Mark van der Lande, head of operational communication for the Ministry of Defence.

The event follows publication of exclusive extracts from the book 'Afghanistan, War and the Media: Deadlines and Frontlines' on Journalism.co.uk, including Channel 4 News' Alex Thomson on the practicalities of embedding and Sky News' Alex Crawford on being embedded on both sides of the conflict.

The debate will take place on 15 September from 7pm. For more details about the event via the Frontline Club's website.
