
Ms van den Belt was formerly digital director for Times Online and her departure will be seen as a blow to the newspaper.
"Digital is pivotal to building the commercial future of the company and should be an integral part of the commercial and overall publishing operation," said Ms van den Belt.
The Telegraph also recently recruited Katie Vanneck from the Times, where she is now marketing director for the title.
