Launched in November the websites combine news and information, such as restaurant reviews and event listings, as well as content provided by other parts of STV's business, including links to its classified business directory launched in February.
In a similar move to Northcliffe Media's launch of its Local People sites in July, STV Local sites will feature user-generated content. Local community groups will be able to post updates directly to the sites, while user reviews will be a prominent feature.
The newly-created roles include an overall editor and deputy editor for the network, as well as four regional editors.
The news group is also looking for an unspecified number of community editors to work from home "or anywhere with WiFi" to edit and provide content for individual sites, working with members of the local community to generate multimedia material for their site.
Three researchers are also being hired to help build events and other listings databases for the network.
"STV Local is aimed at extending STV's strong relationship with the people of Scotland, developed over the last 50 years, into the digital world. We will begin to roll out the service this summer and we're looking for some very talented and committed individuals to join the STV Local team. This is a major recruitment drive and is a clear indication of STV's commitment to what we believe to be a unique, innovative and fully interactive service from STV, which is at the heart of our digital strategy," says Alistair Brown, head of digital at STV, in a release.
The broadcaster is also partnering with three Scottish universities to offer students writing work on the site.
The intern roles will involve writing reviews and news stories, as well as the opportunity to produce videos and graphics for the site.
