A new contest for photojournalists and photographers has announced its inaugural shortlist.

The Picture Editors' Guild Awards will recognise outstanding photography across eight categories, including an award for citizen journalism. Getty Images' photographers Chris Furlong and Christopher Jackson have both been nominated in two categories.

The shortlist can be viewed in full below with a selection of images. More images are available on the awards' website.

Each category winner will receive £500 and a trophy. There will also be an overall SABMiller Photographer of the Year, who will be awarded £1,000 and a trophy. The winners will be announced on 21 September.
