Data mining tool Scraperwiki is organising a series of events pairing up journalists with developers to help journalists develop more programming skills.

The Hacks and Hackers Days will start tomorrow at Liverpool's Arts and Design academy. This will be followed by an event on 23 July in Birmingham.

"The aim is to show journalists how to use programming and design techniques to create online news stories and features; and vice versa, to show programmers how to find, develop, and polish stories and features," says Scraperwiki's blog.

The events are free and open to freelancers and journalists working for all sizes of newsrooms. "Hacks" will be teamed up with "hackers" and create a project to be show at the end of the day, with a prize for one team's final product.

ScraperWiki is funded by Channel 4's public media fund, 4iP.
