Red magazine is offering a paid internship scheme for women looking for a career change to journalism.

The magazine will offer a month-long paid internship later this year as part of Red's Hot Women Grown-Up Work Experience Programme. One intern will be paid £1,000 as part of the scheme, which also offers paid placements at the Royal Opera House and working for a Liberal Democrat MP.

Last year's grown-up intern at Red, Charlotte Griffin, is now planning a career as a freelance journalist, having previously worked as lawyer.

"Charlotte was a grown-up career woman, with skills in other areas - architecture and law - so she brought a lot of knowledge and experience outside of journalism to her month at Red. For instance, she was used to standing up in court as a solicitor, so wasn’t phased or daunted by being thrown in at the deep end and interviewing the party leaders in the run up to the General Election. She also had experience of research and deadlines, which is essential for a career in journalism," Saska Graville, deputy editor at Red Magazine, told Journalism.co.uk.

"Charlotte plans to pursue a freelance career and specialise in interiors stories, which makes the most of her architecture training."

More details of how to apply for the scheme will be available online and in Red's August issue out next month.
