The Press Association (PA) has appointed John Angeli to the newly created position of multimedia editor.

Mr Angeli joins PA from the BBC, where he was duty editor for the Westminster newsdesk.

Prior to working at Westminster, Mr Angeli was editor of interactive TV and broadband at BBC News.

As production editor at BBC News Interactive, Mr Angeli managed BBC News Online's audio video services, including the BBC's video news player.

He will take charge of PA's multimedia team and produce a range of products for digital platforms that includes MSN, Sun Online, the Daily Mail, Tiscali and Northcliffe Electronic Publishing.

Mr Angeli said: "It's a privilege to be joining an organisation with such an important history in gathering news in the UK.

"PA has built its reputation on fast, fair and accurate reporting and in video we will continue that tradition.

"We've a fresh, keen team of journalists with whom we're going to create a truly national video newsgathering service of benefit to all the information industry, be they newspapers, web portals or broadcasters."

Jonathan Grun, PA editor, said: "John's appointment is a commitment to our industry partners that we are serious in our aim to become as indispensable in our provision of compelling UK video, as we already are for the supply of timely and accurate text services.

"John gives us a firm foundation of years of experience in broadcast news and online innovation on which to build the multi-platform future of the agency."
