Investigative journalism award the Bevins Prize has announced its 2010 shortlist, including a nomination for the Guardian's reporting on claims of phone hacking at the News of the World.

Nick Davies coverage of the "dark arts" of phone tapping for the Guardian will compete against David Cohen's investigation for the Evening Standard into paupers' graves.

The Times has two nominations for the award, including a joint entry from Sean O'Neill and David Brown on the child sex abuse scandal at Catholic organisations, focusing on a school in west London.

Also known as the "Rat up a Drainpipe" award, last year's Bevins Prize was won by the Guardian's Paul Lewis for his stories on the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 riots.

The full shortlist for this year's award is below. The winner will be announced on 9 November.
