Phone hacking: 30-year-old man arrested

A 30-year-old man has been arrested by Met police officers on suspicion of phone hacking and perverting the course of justice.

The man, who the Met have not named, was arrested by appointment at a north London police station early this afternoon.

Although the police have not provided any further information, reports suggest the man has been arrested in connection with the News of the World.

He is the 15th suspect arrested by officers from Operation Weeting, the Met's phone hacking investigation team.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: "The man, aged 34, was arrested by appointment at a north London police station. He is currently in police custody."

A number of high-profile current and former News International executives have been arrested by Weeting detectives in connection with phone hacking at the News of the World, including former chief executive Rebekah Brooks, and the tabloid's former editor Andy Coulson and managing editor Stuart Kuttner.

A Met police detective was arrested last month, reportedly in connection with documents related to the investigation being leaked to the Guardian.

The News of the World was closed by News International in July as a result of the scandal, after 168 years in print.
