Paxman to join global journalism conference by video-link

One of Britain's best-known television journalists Jeremy Paxman, is to join a debate at Coventry University on whether there is a crisis affecting journalism across the globe.

The BBC Newsnight presenter has agreed to be 'sent' to Coventry by video-link from BBC Television Centre in London to take part in the event on Wednesday October 28.

Paxman joins a high profile cast for the live video, real-time and webcast conference to be held at the university's Humber Theatre.

The line-up includes Nick Davies, author of 'Flat Earth News'; Professor Richard Keeble; from New York, Professor Jeff Jarvis; and from Geneva, Professor Adrian Monck, now of the World Economic Forum in Davos and formerly of City University London.

With live links to the USA and Africa, the conference will be chaired in Coventry by Kevin Marsh, the editor of the BBC College of Journalism and former editor of the Today programme on Radio 4.

"This is now unmissable for all students of journalism and all those interested in the products of the journalistic trade as writers, readers, whatever," said John Mair, senior lecturer at the University, and producer of the conference.

"Coventry is now a truly global university at the heart of world discussion. Paxo is the icing on a very substantial cake."

The event, 'Is World Journalism in Crisis?' is supported by Coventry University's vice chancellor Madeleine Atkins and pro-vice chancellor for international development David Pilsbury. The discussion is also supported by Journalism.co.uk and sponsored by Camelot.

The event starts at 2pm in the Humber Theatre in the centre of the campus. Entry is free and open to all.
