Paul Durrant, senior content editor, for Archant's Eastern Daily Press has left his post as part of wider changes at the title, Journalism.co.uk has learned.

Durrant, who has worked as a regional newspaper journalist for more than 35 years and is involved with the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), stepped down on Friday, according to Journalism.co.uk sources.

Prior to joining EDP, Durrant began his career as a junior reporter at the East Anglian Daily Times, where he later became news editor.

"Paul Durrant's position is part of a wider restructuring process amongst editorial staff at Archant Norfolk which began several months ago and involves a number of redundancies as previously reported. We will not talk about individuals within this process, which is in any case subject to appeal," an Archant spokesman told Journalism.co.uk.

The 'wider restructuring process' refers to the introduction of a new £2 million content management system at Archant Norfolk, which will see reporters at both the Eastern Daily Press and Norwich Evening News write and publish copy for print and online.

In March, the publisher announced redundancies as a result of the new CMS with 54 editorial redundancies initially proposed across the title's. This figure was later reduced to 34.

In June EDP editor of 16 years Peter Franzen retired from the post and was succeeded by deputy editor Peter Waters last month.
