Online discussion planned to mark National Freelancers Day

Freelance workers from across all sectors will be recognised with a National Freelancers Day, organised by the Professional Contractors Group (PCG).

The event on November 23 will feature a series of regional meetings and an online event, featuring keynote speeches from a range of well-known freelancers representing different fields of the industry.

The focus of NFD will be the future of work and the role of the freelancer in the changing workplace.

"National Freelancers Day will educate the country about freelancing and embrace all interested in the freelance way of working - providing advice on hiring freelancers, becoming freelance and on how to make a success of freelancing," the PCG said on its website.

The event will be backed by a website and survey on the freelance industry conducted by ComRes.

The PCG is also asking for recommendations for freelancers for the event, which can be emailed to info [at] nationalfreelancersday.org.uk.

The PCG spoke out last month following the National Union of Journalists' (NUJ) campaign for redundancy rights for freelancers.

Accepting redundancy pay would be taking on a hallmark 'associated with being an employee' for a freelancer, said the organisation, which campaigns for clearer legislation for freelancers and lobbies government on their behalf.
