The New York Times, BBC News and link journalism project Publish2 all took prizes at the Online News Association (ONA) awards on Saturday.

NYTimes.com picked up two awards for general excellence in online journalism in the large site category and for its use of interactive graphics. In the last year the site has launched a visualisation lab and opened up its content to users and third-parties, including through data packages and APIs.

The BBC News site's rolling coverage of last year's Mumbai bomb attacks received the breaking news prize for a large site.

Start-up Publish2, which lets users bookmark webpages and share these links through a shortcut in their internet browser to encourage collaborative reporting, won the first $5,000 Gannett Foundation award for technical innovation in the service of digital journalism.

Hyperlocal site My Ballard, published by Lost Remote blogger Cory Bergman's Next Door Media, won the accolade for community collaboration, while fellow hyperlocal venture the Gotham Gazette took the prize in the new microsite category of the general excellence award.
