A new website for the fashion industry launched yesterday will promote freelance writing talent, according to its founder.

The Online Fashion Agency will carry trade and consumer news about the industry and is looking for writers wanting to gain experience by writing fashion, business and retail-related articles, founder Leon Bailey-Green (left) told Journalism.co.uk.

Writers who want commissions from online fashion retailers will be represented by the Talent Pad section of the agency.

"Talent Pad is the part of The Online Fashion Agency that will promote, represent and develop fashion creatives and e-commerce professionals in online fashion," explained Bailey-Green
 
The Talent Pad will become a one-stop shop for online fashion retailers looking for freelancers that are particularly skilled and accustomed to working in the sector.

The Talent Pad, which will help freelancers promote their work and handle commissions, is a response to the growing number of online fashion writers and bloggers, said Bailey-Green.

"This year has definitely been a breakthrough year in online fashion for retailers 'engaging with bloggers' and with bloggers becoming brands themselves, just look at what Lauren Luke has achieved by videoblogging," he said.
 
"I created the Talent Pad as part of The Online Fashion Agency as I can see whilst bloggers are keen to work closely with online fashion retailers they need something back, and that something may or may not be monetary."

The site will create editorial content for online retailers and would-be contributors are advised to showcase their work by maintaining their own blog or website. Commission fees will be split between the Online Fashion Agency and the writer.

The website's own news will feature content from launch partners Amethyst Group and Olswang and be pitched as 'an industry resource'.

"The content in Shoppers Counsel, our consumer section, will focus on product which is widely accessible and affordable, there are many great websites out there covering top-end high street fashion to luxury already. I'm after readers of the Sun, Mirror, Now, New and Closer - these are the people that are buying from ASOS and BooHoo.com," said Bailey-Green.

"We'll be providing news to both a consumer and trade audience in the same environment, something Digital Spy manages to do extremely well, so fingers crossed it will work for us too."
