Online politics and culture magazine Slate has been bought by the Washington Post, it was announced this week.

The title had been owned by Microsoft and is believed to have been sold for between £8 - £11 million.

Slate will be editorially independent of the Washington Post. In an editorial on the site, editor Jacob Weisberg said: "Slate is not going to be merged, submerged, bent, folded, spindled, or mutilated."
