Liveblogging could be used to recruit for digital roles, Reed Business Information's (RBI) head of user content development has said.

Speaking with Journalism.co.uk during an all-day liveblogging experiment involving RBI's community editors, Andrew Rogers said services like CoveritLive could be used to demonstrate the work of new digital roles within the publisher.

Today's liveblog, he said, would give other RBI employees and potential recruits an insight into the role of its community editors - a model which could be replicated in the future.

The publisher has previously used CoveritLive to interact with readers on RBI titles Farmers Weekly interactive and CareSpace, but the software has in-house potential, he added.

“We wanted to give the rest of the business the opportunity to see what the community editors do and generate some interest in that,” Rogers said.

“We also wanted to demonstrate to the business the power of CoveritLive and have people coming up with new ways of using this software.”

The use of liveblogging, with its potential for Q&A sessions and product demonstrations, would also feed into the publisher's long-term focus on building online communities for their titles, he added.
