The BBC's chief political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg is in the running for the media prize at Red's Hot Women Awards.

Kuenssberg, who has been nominated for "making the election a must-watch", will compete against four other candidates, including Julie Etchingham, co-presenter of ITV News at 10.

According to a release from Red, Etchingham has been shortlisted for "heading up a new generation of female broadcast journalists and being as compelling reading a script as she is ad-libbing in a live interview".

BBC 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne, network manager for BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music Lorna Clarke and Angela Jain, head of E4, are also listed.

Now in their second year the Red awards also recognise women working in fashion, creative and charity sectors. As part of Red's Hot Women initiative, the magazine also organises work experience for women looking to change careers with a move into journalism.
