Simon Kelner steps down as editor-in-chief of the Independent and i
Simon Kelner has stepped down as editor-in-chief of the Independent and sister title i, just a month after he was replaced as editor of the titles.
In July, the newspaper announced that Kelner was stepping down as editor to be replaced by Chris Blackhurst.
At the time it was confirmed he would stay as editor-in-chief of both the Independent and i, but staff have now been informed he is also stepping down from this role.
It is understood Kelner will remain a non-executive director of parent company Independent Print Limited and will continue to pen a column for the i newspaper, but will not be involved in the day-to-day running of the papers.
Kelner was appointed editor of the Independent 13 years ago and stayed in the role until 2008, before becoming managing director of the Independent titles.
He returned as editor when the company was bought by Alexander Lebedev in 2010.
