McAllister, who will be based in New York, will oversee production and editorial for all of Reuters online news operations and drive new multimedia projects, a press release said.
Prior to this appointment, McAllister worked for CNN for more than 17 years, including a post as executive vice president and managing editor for national newsgathering. Most recently, he was the CEO of web-based business, Mochila.
"Keith's strong understanding of the external consumer business landscape, partnered with his track record for driving innovations and proven leadership capabilities make him a perfect fit for this new, exciting role," said Chris Cramer, Reuters global editor for multimedia, in the release.
