The site attracted 29,373,379 unique users - a month-on-month rise of 19.2 per cent (4,735,996) - to beat the Guardian, with 28,966,942, into second place.
An increase in monthly unique user figures was posted by Telegraph.co.uk, Times Online, Guardian.co.uk, Mail Online, Mirror Group Digital and the sun. Only the Independent's website recorded a drop (down 2.31 per cent) from May's figures.

Unique users: 25,062,845 (+9.22 per cent); +61.59 per cent year-on-year
Independent.co.uk
Unique users: 9,352,369 (-2.31 per cent); +29.61 per cent year-on-year
Mirror Group
Unique users: 9,442,900 (+8.62 per cent); +74.02 per cent year-on-year
