Henry will take over from Janine Gibson, who is moving to New York as part of the Guardian's new US digital operation. She will be responsible for all parts of the website except for news content.
Henry first started at the Guardian in 1989 as a media correspondent and later became editor of the MediaGuardian, before becoming deputy editor of the Guardian in 1996.
In 2006 she launched Comment is Free, the site's dedicated blogging platform for comment and discussion.
The MediaGuardian also reports that further appointments have also been announced to the company's US digital operation.
"Adam Gabbatt will be the Guardian's New York live blogger, Aidan Geary will be going to the US as executive producer, Tim Hill will be the deputy production editor, and Nell Boase will relocate to New York as managing editor," the MediaGuardian report says.
