The next full-day news:rewired digital journalism conference will take place on 1 December, and we are excited to announce the first speakers who will be joining us on the day, including experts from the BBC, The Wall Street Journal, Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, and The Times and The Sunday Times.
The day will be packed with practical advice and lessons from some of digital media's leading figures, covering topics such as data storytelling, cross-border investigative techniques, in-house tools and their role in the newsroom, and the latest tips for publishers on chat apps.
We are delighted to announce:
- Trushar Barot, mobile editor, BBC World Service, will be joining a panel discussion about the role of chat apps in the newsroom and opportunities for publishers on messaging apps around the world.
- Megan Lucero, data journalism editor, The Times and The Sunday Times, will give delegates practical insights on working with data in a workshop on data storytelling.
- Nick Petrie, deputy head of digital, The Times and The Sunday Times, will discuss the open-source initiatives at the Times and the tools the publisher has decided to build in-house for its journalists.
- Jacqui Maher, interactive journalist, BBC News Labs, will join Nick on a panel looking at the issues newsrooms are trying to solve with in-house tools and talking about the BBC's own innovative products and what it took to build them.
- Lawrence Marzouk, editor, Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, leads cross-border teams of journalists, deploying huge volumes of Freedom of Information requests, scraping and old-fashioned reporting tricks to delve into high-level corruption in the Balkans. He will share his techniques and experiences in a practical workshop.
- Elliot Bentley, graphics editor, The Wall Street Journal, will discuss how the Journal's newsroom uses the publisher's own in-house tools, joining Nick and Jacqui on the panel.
