Daily Star Sunday more than doubled its circulation in July

The Daily Star Sunday saw an increase in circulation of almost 130 per cent in July, the same month News International closed the News of the World.

According to the latest results from the Audit Bureau of Circulation, all Sunday popular titles in the UK saw an increase of at least double digits month-on-month.

The figures show the Daily Star Sunday's average daily circulation increased from 305,978 in June to 703,631 the following month, a rise of just under 400,000.

The Sunday paper reportedly doubled its print run the weekend after the closure of the News of the World.

The People was next highest, with a 69.96 per cent increase in circulation while the Sunday Mirror recorded a 64 per cent rise.

Scottish title the Sunday Mail also recorded an increase, of 14.23 per cent.

Mid-market Sunday titles also saw healthy increases, of 20.27 per cent for the Sunday Express, 16.99 per cent for the Mail on Sunday and and 6.42 per cent for the Sunday Post.

The News of the World published its final edition on 10 July following a week of phone hacking allegations.

According to News International, the final issue sold a total of 3.8 million copies, a 1.1 million increase on the previous week.

Advertising space in the final edition was dedicate to good causes and the company said its revenues from the weekend would also go to charities.
