North Wales Daily Post to launch Q&A liveblog

The Daily Post in North Wales is to launch a new live online feature called 'Ask the Experts', which will take the form of a weekly Q&A liveblog.

The site has run Q&As before, including a series of liveblogs on health reform, but is now turning it into a weekly feature. Experts already lined up to take part range from a fitness expert to a flooding expert.

The liveblog Q&A will run from 12 to 1pm each Tuesday, with the discussion written up in the newspaper the following day. The first Q&A will take place tomorrow with Daily Post editor Alison Gow.

Readers of the Daily Post have been invited to submit questions either live on the blog, or in advance via email or on Twitter to @dailypostwales.

Social media and online communities editor Antonia Jones said it is "part of our strategy to engage with our readers, so we're trying to come up with new ideas on how to do that".

She added that the selection of experts may be opened up to readers in the future, but they wanted to first ensure at least a month of experts were lined up in advance.

"We wanted it to be quite structured at the start so we didn't have a week where we thought 'oh no, no one's come forward and given us an expert'. So before we start it tomorrow we wanted a list of people for a good month so we can keep the momentum going."

In a bid to keep their audience up-to-date with the Post's activities, the news outlet is also considering setting up a Tumblr for the newsroom "so we can blog about what we're doing", Jones said.

The launch of a new Q&A liveblog comes several months after the Daily Post also launched an all-day, homepage liveblog, along with the Manchester Evening News, as part of an experiment by Trinity Mirror regionals to put a "new emphasis on breaking news", digital publishing director David Higgerson told Journalism.co.uk at the time.
