Vanguard programmes, which focus on news, current affairs and investigative journalism, will be broadcast on Mondays on the Current TV channel and also made available online.
Journalists working for the programme include US reporters Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who were recently released from detention in North Korea.
Journalists from the UK are being sought on a freelance basis for Vanguard's US team, though relocation is not necessary, Lina Prestwood, director of content for Current TV, told Journalism.co.uk.
The ideal candidate will have at least three years experience of producing or additionally corresponding long-form, magazine-style news or documentary programmes.
The journalists will be expected to produce two or three reports a year, starting from the end of 2009, Prestwood added.
"Vanguard typically requires that correspondent/producers have an active hand in every aspect of producing a piece - from conception to final edit. I'd love to find someone who is comfortable producing and not just corresponding. Over the years we've found that the better correspondents are those who have experience creating stories, rather than someone who's just interested in being a face for TV," Prestwood explained.
Prestwood has asked interested parties to email her with a brief introduction, CV and links to their work.
